Government acts to curb younger smokers
Question1:
What are some measures by the government to curb smoking?
-The Health promotion board (HPB) increase heavier fines for underage smoking.
-The Health Minister is also given to stop the sale of certain tobacco products.
-Some places are also barred from selling tobacco products and lowing permitted tar and nicotine levels.
Retailers who sell tobacco products to buyers in school uniform or those clearly below 12 will lose their license.

Question2:
How successful do you think these measures would be? Support your answer with reasons.
-I think that those measures will not very very effective.
-For some adults that have been addicted to smoking, they will do anything just to get cigarettes to stop their temptation. They will either buy from people without license or even stealing from shops which in the end; getting caught by the police.
-As for the young smokers, they will get cigarettes or tobacco products from friends or illegally. They do not care about the packaging and the consequences of smoking as they are addicted to smoking.
-Smokers who are rich will not be bothered about the fines as they have enough money to clear off the fines. Even if they do not know if they can return the amount of money borrowed, poor smokers will borrow money from relatives, friends and a very high risk of stealing money or even steal straight from a shop for tobacco products. Hardcore smokers do not care about the consequence of getting heart disease or even lung cancer as they are addicted and will continue to smoke heavily as they cannot resist the temptation.
